About

Divinator is a top-down Shoot-Em-Up in which you assume the role of a dark priestess and slay the creatures of hell with powerful arcane magic.

The game was our third game project at The Game Assembly and it was made in TGA's in-house game engine Tga2D over 8 weeks halftime.

MY CONTRIBUTIONS

Bullet Pattern Editor Tool

Since we were making a Shoot-Em-Up game we needed the enemies to shoot bullets in cool and exciting patterns.

I wanted the designers to design the bullet patterns themselves, so I developed a Bullet Pattern Editor tool. This was my first experience developing a tool, and I took quite a liking to it.

The feeling of developing a tool and then having people be grateful for it was something I wanted more of going forward.

Game Juice

The goal in a Shoot-Em-Up is to, well, shoot. Therefore, we wanted that core mechanic of shooting to feel satisfying and rewarding.

I made it so that enemies flickered when they were hit, then exploded and dropped a bunch of score pick-ups when they died.

Combining this with a bunch of sound effects was a good recipe for a juicy and satisfying Shoot-Em-Up experience.
